Resident Advocates for Comprehensive Plan Review and Waterfront Revitalization

George Vanovic, president of SPACE (Stony Point Action Committee for Environment), addressed the board regarding the comprehensive plan and the Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan (LWRP). He thanked Supervisor Amy Stam for making town board meetings available on YouTube and Jake Catalo for the videotaping. Vanovic commented on the cancellation of the Memorial Day parade due to weather and noted the historical significance of the Battle of Stony Point. He expressed disappointment at not being appointed to the comprehensive plan committee, given his 36 years of experience. Vanovic suggested leveraging demographic information from Rockland County for the comprehensive plan and criticized the planner's approach, recommending a moratorium and a more rigorous review process, referencing past comprehensive plans and moratoriums from 1998. He emphasized the importance of defining a vision for Stony Point's future and re-examining zoning, particularly concerning high-density housing and the waterfront, referencing past brainstorming sessions and the need to consider areas like Leworth and potential developments like Eagle Bay and X Marina. Vanovic advocated for including the LWRP in the comprehensive plan, citing concerns about current waterfront development.
