City Council Considers FY27 Staffing and Compensation Ordinance
The City Council heard the first reading of Bill 6401, the fiscal year 2027 staffing and compensation ordinance. The ordinance establishes employee compensation plans and staffing levels for FY27, which includes 135 full-time, 20 part-time, and 32 seasonal employees. A 3% across-the-board wage adjustment is included. The ordinance also reflects a reduction of one account clerk due to the tax collection contract with Madrid and Scott Counties, the addition of two part-time flight linemen and a reduction of one full-time flight lineman at the airport, and the addition of two part-time communications officers.
City Council Issues Proclamation Recognizing Volunteerism and Community Support
The City Council conducted a proclamation ceremony recognizing the importance of volunteerism and community support. Mayor Greg Turbo committed to promoting volunteerism through the justserve.org platform, aiming to make it easier for residents to find and engage in volunteer opportunities and to regularly acknowledge volunteer contributions. Representatives from the justserve organization were present and acknowledged. Following the proclamation, the council meeting commenced with standard procedures including approval of minutes and opening prayer.
City Council to Consider Zelner Construction for Chamber Office Renovations
The City Council is considering awarding a design-build contract to Zelner Construction for the renovation of chamber offices and related projects. The offices were vacated by the Chamber of Commerce and the economic development department. The renovation aims to convert the space into a meeting room. The project also includes making existing bathrooms ADA compatible and addressing exterior wall issues at the court building. Three vendors submitted statements of qualifications: Boulder Construction, Puts Construction, and Zelner Construction.
City Council Reviews Lease Amendment for Sykes and Country Club Property
The City Council considered a request to approve an amendment to the Sykes and Country Club lease. The original lease, approved in June, was for city property adjacent to the country club used for parking and cart sheds, supporting their project to replace the clubhouse, pool, and tennis courts. The amendment adjusts property lines to allow for the creation of a detention pond and drainage pipes, addressing drainage issues. The revised property lines were agreed upon after meetings with the lessee of the Essex building and the country club's representatives and engineers.
City Council Appoints New Members to Library Board
The City Council approved the appointment of three individuals to the Library Board: Colleen Flaker was reappointed, and Blake Bane and Carol Ascu were appointed. These terms are effective July 1st and are limited to three full terms. Colleen Flaker has served two full terms and was considered for re-appointment. Melissa Kelly and Elizabeth Littleton did not seek re-appointment. The board's nominating committee recommended the appointments.
