DEEP Grant Funds Reallocated for Shelton High School Multi-Purpose Turf Field
The Board of Aldermen authorized the reallocation of $150,000 from a Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) grant. Originally approved on August 8th, 2024, for the Shelton High School football field, these funds will now be redirected to the installation of a new multi-purpose turf field project. This reallocation is crucial to avoid losing the grant. Other funding is being sought for a scoreboard, and infrastructure work for future field lights and a maintenance building is underway.
Senior Center Men's Bathroom Partitions to be Replaced
The Board of Aldermen approved the appropriation of $3,420 for new bathroom partitions for the men's bathroom at the senior center. Funding for this purchase will come from bonding, as per city charter section 7.16. The existing partitions are approximately 30-35 years old.
Huntington Firehouse Garage Bays to Receive Epoxy Floor Coating
The Board of Aldermen approved the appropriation of $45,000 for the purchase and installation of epoxy floor coating in the Huntington Firehouse garage bays. Funding will come from bonding. There was a discussion about the durability of epoxy, with assurance that the fire department is aware of its wear characteristics and that this is a cost-effective and timely solution given the need to house equipment during the process.
Shelton Approves HUD CDBG Grant Funding Allocation
The Board of Aldermen approved a resolution concerning the US HUD fiscal year 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The city was awarded this grant, which was previously accepted in June 2005 and the city agreed to fund its allocation for public service, public facilities, and administration. The resolution appropriates an amount to be reimbursed by the US HUD from the general fund surplus.
Bidding Waived for Coram Avenue Bridge Deck Paving
The Board of Aldermen approved waiving the bidding process for the paving of the Coram Avenue bridge deck. No additional funding is necessary as the funding is already in place.
