Sanford City Council Corrects Annexation Ordinance Errors

The council considered and approved a correction to annexation ordinance 2025-26, adopted on March 18th, 2025. The correction addresses errors in the first 'whereas' paragraph, where the fifth digit of several pin numbers was listed as '9' instead of the correct '8'. Mr. Montgomery provided the amendment to correct these parcel numbers. The council unanimously approved the amendment.

Sanford Approves Expansion of Microtransit Program with Additional Vehicle and Zone

The city council approved the first amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Sanford, Lee County, and the Lee County Transit System (Colts) for the pilot microtransit program. The amendment adds one additional full-size lift-equipped transit vehicle to the fleet, expected by December 20, 2026. Temporarily, a Colts minivan will serve as the fourth vehicle in original zone areas. The amendment also includes the expansion of the microtransit program's zone to include areas in Tramway. Reimbursement is set at $78.50 per hour per vehicle. The council praised the program's success and community engagement.

Sanford Approves Street Closures for Juneteenth Celebration

The Sanford City Council approved a resolution supporting the temporary closure of portions of Washington Avenue, Oakdale Avenue, Hudson Avenue, and Fushi Drive on Saturday, June 20th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Sanford Juneteenth Freedom Parade and Day at the Park. Dr. Andrea Donaldson-Carver submitted the request. Council members expressed their gladness for the event.

Broadwell Conditional Zoning District Design Revised and Approved by Sanford City Council

The council approved an amendment to the existing Broadwell Conditional Zoning District, revising the original design approved in 2021. The amendment affects two tracts of land and a portion of a third lot. The planning board unanimously recommended approval, citing reasonable project entrances and the fact that it's a revision to an already approved land use. The council voted to find the amendment consistent with the Planned Sandley land use types of 'mixed-use activity center' and 'suburban neighborhood,' noting that some areas approved for general commercial development in 2021 remain unchanged and the design transitions between commercial and residential areas. The second vote approved the ordinance amending the official zoning map, deeming the redesign reasonable in the public interest as it maintains the same proposed land uses.
