Safer Streets Redmond Releases First Annual Progress Report
The city presented its first Safer Streets annual report, covering progress since the action plan's adoption in April 2025. The report highlights accomplishments, priorities for the coming year, and updates on crash data. Key findings include an increase in crashes in 2025, though departments have initiated actions under all pillars of the safe systems approach (safer roads, speeds, road users, vehicles, and post-crash care). 14 out of 23 identified actions are underway or completed. Future priorities include a citywide speed study, education campaigns, safe routes to school plans, and updating standard plans and the complete streets policy.
Redmond to Accept $970,000 State Grant for Asbestos Cement Pipe Replacement
The City of Redmond is seeking authorization to accept $970,000 in grant funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce for the Redmond Asbestos Cement Pipe Replacement Project. This funding, part of the 2025-2027 state capital budget, will support the replacement of aging asbestos cement water mains along Aendale Road and Northeast Novelty Hill Road upstream of Bear Creek. The project aims to enhance water system reliability, reduce failure risks, and protect water quality and salmon habitat. The total project budget is $3.27 million, with the city contributing $2.3 million from its water capital fund.
Award of Construction Contract for ADA Curb Ramp Project and Funding Increase Discussed
The committee is discussing the award of a construction contract to Earthworks Solutions LLC for the ADA Curb Ramp 2026 project, along with an increase in total funding. The project involves upgrading 45 ADA curb ramps in the Grass Lawn and Edill neighborhoods, including other pavement and pedestrian/bike improvements. The funding increase is attributed to an expanded scope, combining this project with an adjacent one for contractor efficiency.
Northeast 70th Shared Use Path Project Contracts Awarded with Revised Scope
The city is awarding a construction contract to NPM Construction for $62,075.50 and approving a consultant services agreement with Preti for $47,156 for the Northeast 70th Shared Use Path Project. The project's original scope was more ambitious and intended to utilize a federal highway grant, but due to complexities with easements and negotiations, the scope was reduced. The revised project will deliver a new crosswalk, channelization, and striping at the intersection of 70th and Redmond Way, with public works crews handling the shared use path work.
MOC Campus Redevelopment Project Amendment and Future Phases Discussed
The council is reviewing an amendment to a progressive design-build contract with LeCratcher Lewis Washington LLC for the MOC Campus Redevelopment Project. This amendment (Amendment One) covers early purchase items with long lead times (elevators, structural steel, switch gear) and additional capacity for validation on a new property. A second amendment is anticipated in 18-20 months, which will include the completed design package and the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP). The project aims to create a multi-generational facility for public works, parks, and facilities crews.
