Oak Park Proclaims National Gun Violence Awareness Day
The Oak Park City Council adopted a proclamation declaring June 5th, 2026, as National Gun Violence Awareness Day in Oak Park, Michigan. This proclamation honors victims and survivors of gun violence and calls for action to end this public health crisis. The council was joined by representatives from Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, South Oakland County chapter, who advocate for gun violence prevention through various programs and education.
Oak Park Zoning Ordinance Updated to Include EV Charging Station Regulations and Sign Updates
The Oak Park City Council approved proposed text amendments to the city's zoning ordinance. These amendments add regulations regarding electric vehicles (EV) charging stations to Article 3, Division 1 (General Provisions) and update regulations for signs in Article 4, Division 4.
Oak Park Approves Special Event Licenses and Announces Community Events
The city council approved several special event licenses and waivers for community events. These include the Kingston Street Block Party, the Camp Casey Giveback event hosted by Jog and Pony Show Brewing, the Oak Park Cruis & Groove event, and a PART event at the Water Tower District. Additionally, an update on the Event Hub project was provided, with the reception and State of the City address scheduled for June 30th, followed by a summer concert. The Funfest event and Juneteenth celebration were also announced.
Oak Park Extends Professional Services Contract with Lamarb Services LLC
The Oak Park City Council approved a one-year contract extension with Lamarb Services LLC for public works and community-related projects. The contract is effective through May 31st, 2027, and allows the city manager to sign on behalf of the city. Funding for this contract is allocated within the major streets, local streets, water, sewer, and solid waste accounts. A resident raised a question about the contract not being put out for bids.
Oak Park Approves Special Assessment District for 11 Mile Parking Lot and Various Infrastructure Projects
The city council approved the establishment of Special Assessment District 7:30 for the 11 Mile parking lot reconstruction. A total cost of $858,647.70, after contributions from the CIA, grants, the city general fund, and ARPA funds, leaves $281,000 to be spread among 14 bordering properties. The council also adopted a resolution setting a public hearing date for this assessment. Additionally, the council approved pay applications and change orders for several infrastructure projects, including the 11 Mile parking lot and alleyway improvement project, the Capitol Avenue Rehabilitation Project, and the 2025-2026 Miscellaneous Concrete Project.
