Record High Reading and Math Scores Reflect Program Success
The district's reading and math scores are at their highest year-end levels, showing consistent growth over the past six to seven years. This trend indicates the effectiveness of implemented programs. The district is also seeing improvements in SAT scores, with this growth expected to transfer to grades B and potentially sixth grade. The district has been implementing new programs for about five years, reaching full implementation.
Inflationary Pressures Impact District Finances; Co-op Explored for Food Costs
Inflation has risen to 3.8% year-over-year in April, up from 3.3% in March, primarily driven by higher gas and energy prices, as well as increased travel and food costs. These pressures are impacting the district's expenditures. To mitigate rising food and supply costs, the district is considering joining a food purchasing co-op, though it's too late for this fiscal year, with potential for FY28. The co-op offers competitively bid products and would simplify administrative tracking and potentially reduce costs. Workers' compensation premiums are also expected to increase by 10-15% due to rising health insurance costs.
District Wishes Safe and Happy Summer Break to All
The district is preparing for the summer months, with a wish for everyone to have a happy and safe summer. The speaker acknowledges that travel and airline tickets are expensive, suggesting enjoyment despite the costs. The meeting concluded with thanks to everyone for attending.
STEM Festival a Success; Summer School Preparations Underway
The Impossible Science STEM festival in early May was highly successful, featuring 25 stations where students engaged in activities for approximately 40 minutes each. Teachers and administrators also participated, enjoying the event. Pictures will be shared at the June meeting. Summer school starts June 3rd, with training on the 1st and parent night on the 2nd.
Water Sensor Pilot Program Launched to Prevent Facility Damage
The district is participating in a water sensor pilot program at no cost, recently receiving water sensor buckets for installation to detect moisture accumulation. These sensors can be placed in areas prone to moisture, such as near roofs or leaking pipes, to identify issues early and reduce facility-related damages and insurance costs. Facilities teams have begun installing these sensors.
