Fire Department Engagement Subcommittee Proposed
The committee discussed the possibility of creating a "Coffee with the Fire Department" event, similar to the "Coffee with the Cops" initiative. They considered various formats, including an open house, parking a fire engine near a coffee shop, or an event at the fire station. The discussion also touched upon the fire department's successful sensory-friendly open house for individuals with disabilities and the associated training received by the department. Shane volunteered to chair a new subcommittee focused on fire engagement, with Teresa and Noah also agreeing to serve. The idea was to add this to the existing police engagement committee, but it was decided to form a separate subcommittee for fire engagement.
Pride Day Preparations Underway with Volunteer Coordination
The Pride Day event preparations are underway, with plans to share a table with the library. There was some last-minute confusion but it was resolved. Volunteers are being coordinated, with Joanna, Teresa, and Kate confirming availability for specific times. Kevin is organizing supplies like rainbow tattoos, beads, and Skittles, and will also arrange for a trifold board. A suggestion was made to organize a raffle for next year's Pride Day, potentially with donated prizes like Steelers season tickets.
MLK Day Event Venue Secured at High School
The MLK Day event venue has been secured at the high school, which offers ample parking, making it easier than the previous building. Planning for volunteers and a checklist for the event will commence. The DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) committee reported no significant issues.
Residents Academy to Restart in August; Organization Chart Updated
The Residents Academy program will restart in August, with dates and contact people being finalized. The organization chart was discussed, with ample copies available. A new version of the organization chart will be available in May, and it is provided to Residents Academy participants. The program is conducted every other year.
Volunteer Dinner Honors Community Contributors
The volunteer dinner was described as a beautiful and wonderful event where volunteers from various committees were recognized. Ron Block and his wife attended, while Asta and Laura were unable to attend but sent gracious notes. The event was financially feasible only once every two years due to costs. Attendees had the opportunity to meet people from different boards, including the library board. A state representative also spoke briefly. The dinner aimed to honor those who contribute to the community through volunteer work.
