Macedonia Honors Law Enforcement During National Police Week and Recognizes Fire Department Achievement
The council recognized National Police Week, May 11th-16th, 2026, honoring law enforcement officers, including local members of the Macedonia Police Department. A proclamation highlighted the service and sacrifice of officers killed in the line of duty, noting the 24,500+ officers who have died since 1786 and the 363 new names added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Peace Officers Memorial Day was observed on May 15th. The council also commended Assistant Fire Chief Paul Selinsky for receiving the Community Engaged Teaching Recognition Award from the University of Akron for his work with the Macedonia Fire Academy.
Macedonia Amends Local Ordinances to Reflect State Legislation
The council discussed and approved amendments to local ordinances to align with state legislation passed by the Ohio General Assembly. This process ensures the city's code reflects current laws, including reclassifications of offenses. The amendments also allow the city to collect fines locally rather than the state, providing a financial benefit. While most ordinances mirror state law, some local adjustments are made. The council confirmed that all ordinances are available for review.
