Lynden High School Student Update Covers Academics, Athletics, Arts, and Extracurriculars

Student representative Anis Moss provided an update on student life and engagement at Lynden High School. Key events included Decision Day on May 1st, where seniors celebrated post-graduation plans with university and trade school representatives. The LHS Dance Company presented 'Dancing on Broadway' on May 19th, honoring senior dancers. Athletic highlights included senior nights for various sports and the boys varsity volleyball team advancing to round two of the NJSIAA state tournament. Senior Braden Del Brun qualified for the high jump after winning the sectional championship, and junior Christian Cavevesa qualified for the group 4 championships in the 100-meter dash. Students enjoyed prom on May 21st, and are preparing for final exams from June 10th to 15th. Information was provided regarding grad bash tickets and the purchase of school laptops. Club activities included a Spanish club picnic and field day. NJRTC cadets participated in a USS New Jersey battleship overnight trip. Career and technical education featured a construction industry career day field trip, and recognition was given to recipients of the ISC International Society of Certified Electronic Technicians.

Student Recognized for Kindness Initiative and Multiple Academic and Civic Achievements

Seventh grader Scori Nakanishi was recognized for her initiative in writing kindness letters to staff members, starting with teachers at McManis and Soul Middle School, then expanding to central office staff, and encouraging third through 12th graders to participate during wellness days. This 'pillar of kindness' initiative aims to brighten people's days. Scori also received numerous other accolades, including being the Union County recipient of the New Jersey Department of Education student scholars award, an invitation to Trenton for recognition by the commissioner of education, a proclamation from Mayor Armstead, a proclamation from the county superintendent's office (Mr. Palm Mari), and a proclamation from Senator Nickqatari's office. Her principal, Mr. Mastrianiano, also recognized her. The board and superintendent expressed pride in her contributions and impact on the district.
