Lexington Announces Full Slate of Events for Nation's 250th Birthday and 4th of July Celebration
Lexington is preparing for its 250th birthday celebration with a 'star-spangled week' of events. The city is collaborating with RJ Corman, which will continue to serve as the launch site for the fireworks spectacular from their Central Kentucky Lines Rail Yard. This year's fireworks will feature an extra special grand finale. The 4th of July Festival includes the 50th running of the Bluegrass 10,000, which now offers a 5K option alongside the 10K and one-mile fun run. New events include a sing-along to the filmed version of the musical Hamilton and an 'Ice Cream Social' with free cake and ice cream. Residents are encouraged to decorate their homes, businesses, and parade floats in red, white, and blue. The festivities kick off on Friday, June 26th, with a screening of Hamilton at Jacobson Park and run through Sunday, July 5th, with various concerts, a patriotic concert, and the fireworks spectacular.

Lexington Welcomes New Police Officers and Certified EMTs
The Division of Police has welcomed 21 new officers to the force in a ceremony where they were reminded that their role is a calling, not just a job. The police department emphasizes the importance of community involvement in its mission to fight crime and suppress evil. The new officers were sworn in, pledging to support the Constitution and faithfully execute their duties. The Division of Fire also celebrated the certification of new EMTs, who completed extensive classroom, clinical, and ride time. The program highlights the difference between EMT Basic and EMT Paramedic, with paramedics certified in advanced trauma care, intubation, and medication administration. The fire department has over half of its firefighters certified as EMT paramedics, with more planned for the fall. The training emphasizes engagement, humility, and a desire to improve, with the ultimate goal of providing exceptional care during vulnerable moments for the community.
