Hometown Celebration Preparations Underway for US 250th Anniversary
The Hometown Celebration, marking the US's 250th anniversary, is approaching, with preparations underway. The event will feature a carnival, music, and enhanced fireworks. The parade starts and ends at Nixon Park. Residents are encouraged to volunteer, and the village is providing contact information for inquiries. The celebration aims to bring the community together and foster a sense of shared enjoyment and local pride, echoing past traditions and creating new memories.
Residents Voice Concerns Over Special Event Ordinance Adherence and Nixon Park Usage
Residents expressed concerns about the adherence to city ordinances regarding special events, specifically the bike race. Issues raised included lack of timely notification to residents within a 500-foot radius, street closures impacting emergency access, excessive event frequency at Nixon Park, and ongoing problems with parking, trash, and dogs off-leash. The council acknowledged the feedback and committed to investigating the ordinance adherence and addressing parking concerns for future events.
Village Reviews 2025 Water Quality Report, Addresses PFAS Concerns
The village reviewed its 2025 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) for water quality. The report indicates that all water sampling within the distribution system for 2025 was in compliance with DNR regulations, with no violations. The report details the water distribution system, well depths, annual water pumped, and information on backflow prevention. It also notes the presence of lead services in the village. Discussions also touched upon water hardness (23 grains), shallow well depths, and the ongoing issue of PFAS contamination. While the current PFAS levels (4.1 parts per trillion) are slightly above the EPA's recommended standard of 4 parts per trillion, the village has until 2030 to implement corrective actions. Recent investigatory samples show lower PFAS levels, and the village is exploring funding options for treatment, which could cost around $7 million for well six.
Park and Recreation Board Dissolved; Plan Commission Membership Modified
The village council voted to dissolve the Park and Recreation Board by approving Ordinance Number 511 2026. Following this decision, they also passed Ordinance Number 511 2026-A, which amends the village plan commission's membership composition. This change allows for a citizen appointment to the plan commission with an emphasis on park and recreation matters, filling the vacancy created by the dissolution of the park board. Trustee Tim Hawquist was appointed to this new citizen position on the plan commission for a three-year term, effective at the next village board meeting.
TIF District Four Loan Balance Reduced for Early Repayment
The village council agreed to reduce the TIF (Tax Increment Financing) District Number Four loan balance to $5,000 if paid by June 30th, 2026. This decision followed a closed session deliberation specifically related to TIFF Tax Improvement District Number Four, where negotiations regarding public properties and public funds were discussed.
