Mayor Reports on Defeat of 'BUILD Act' and Criticizes State Budget Practices

Mayor Ogle discussed legislative matters in Springfield, specifically the "BUILD Act" which aimed to override local zoning control and was opposed by local mayors, including Frankfort. The Mayor noted that the bill did not pass due to overwhelming opposition. Frankfort had previously submitted a letter of opposition and passed a resolution against the bill. The Mayor also expressed concerns about state budget issues, including the lack of property tax relief, diverted school funding, and the reduction of the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF). He mentioned that Frankfort has lost approximately $16 million in LGDF over the years, impacting vital services. The Mayor highlighted the recent passage of the largest state budget in Illinois history, criticizing its size and the short time officials had to review it.
