Concerns Raised Over Proposed AI Data Center's Impact on Community and Infrastructure
Mike Shade, a candidate for county legislature, addressed the board regarding a proposed AI data center in East Fishkill, urging Fishkill to consider zoning regulations to restrict similar high-consumption facilities. He cited concerns about the facility's massive energy consumption, estimated at 800,000 homes' worth of electricity, and its potential strain on infrastructure, noise pollution, and light pollution, while offering few long-term jobs. Shade noted that national polls indicate broad public opposition to such centers in communities. He encouraged Fishkill to adopt strong restrictions and consider a public referendum for massive projects. Public Hearing Set for Sewer Main Break Repair Assessment
The board scheduled a public hearing for July 1st to consider a one-time sewer assessment of $190 per resident in affected districts to cover a $400,000 repair cost for a sewer main break on Whos Boulevard in December. Councilman Rye is working on proposing to split the assessment into three water bills. The town plans to send a letter with the next water bill detailing accomplishments in water and sewer districts. The sewer main break was caused by a developer in the 1990s who installed a substandard pipe and abandoned the property, leading to multiple breaks over the years.
