City Staff and Council Commend Electric Department for Service

City Council Approves Contract for Trailhead Park Playground Equipment and Installation
The City Council approved an agreement for independent contractor services with Garrett Parks and Play for the Trailhead Park playground equipment and installation. This follows an RFP process where six proposals were received, and Garrett Parks and Play was recommended. A contract was drafted by Scott Kopicki, with minor, immaterial modifications, and executed by the company president, Bern Garrett. Garrett anticipates material delivery in mid to late July and installation in the first week of August. City crews will complete remaining work, with the park expected to be finished by the end of August. The Cody Rotary Club significantly contributed to this project.
Park County and City of Cody Approve Resolution for 1% Specific Purpose Excise Tax Proposition
The City Council approved Resolution 2026-08, a joint resolution with Park County, to place a proposition for a 1% specific purpose excise tax on the November 3rd, 2026, general election ballot. This tax is intended to fund specific projects. The resolution language was reviewed by the city and Powell's attorney and has been approved by Powell. The main change from a previous version was a more detailed definition of the 'trickle-in effect' per statute. The amounts for the tax remain the same. The resolution passed with a unanimous vote in Powell and was approved by the Cody City Council.
City Council Reviews Annual Budget and Property Tax Levy for Fiscal Year 2027
The City Council conducted the first reading of the annual budget for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 2027. The budget was developed over several months with input from department heads and council review sessions. Adjustments were made based on council discussions, and the proposed budget reflects these changes. The council also conducted the first reading of an ordinance levying property taxes for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 2027. The city levies the maximum mill levy of eight mills, with five mills allocated to the city and three to the fire district. The anticipated revenue from this levy is $1,012,616.
Fire Department Annual Cleaning Scheduled for Sheridan Avenue
Councilmember McGuising announced that the fire department will be conducting its annual cleaning on Sheridan Avenue on Saturday morning, starting at 6 a.m. Emily and McGuising will inform downtown businesses about this event on Thursday to notify the public.
