Joshua King Recognized as May Student of the Month, Pursuing Military Career
Joshua King was honored as a Student of the Month for May. He has taken a rigorous course load including AP statistics, honors physics, dual enrollment modern world literature, AP environmental science, creative coding, economics, and AP computer science. King shared that his favorite class was a general computer science class, specifically mentioning Miss Kong's programming class in junior year, which sparked his love for coding. He presented a project, a simple synthesizer built with JavaScript, at a 'Project Lead the Way' showcase, combining his passion for music and coding. King has been involved in community service, with his favorite activity being the Tim Bourke scholarship foundation, established in memory of a family friend who served the community as a police officer. He also plays lacrosse and hockey, learning lessons in hard work and time management. Next year, King will be a cadet at Virginia Tech, a senior military institute, planning to commission into the army as an officer after four years of leadership training. He plans to explore different army specializations.
Katherine Craig Celebrated as May Student of the Month, Excelling in Academics, Athletics, and Business Internship
Katherine Craig was recognized as a May Student of the Month. She discussed learning communication skills as a lacrosse captain. Craig also participates in class reps, helping with decisions for class events like the craft fair and spirit days. She has received All-Star recognition from both the Globe and the Herald for her sports performance. An internship at a creamery has allowed her to participate in inventory management, social media posting, and ordering, providing insight into small business operations. Next year, Craig plans to attend Sienna University to study health sciences and play lacrosse. She described her role as class representative as fun, involving decision-making for class events and spirit days. She also noted her athletic achievements, including All-Star selections for both the Globe and the Herald. Her internship at a creamery involved managing inventory, suggesting revenue-generating items like drinks of the week, and posting on social media. He expressed that his participation in class reps was a significant part of his high school experience, helping plan class activities. Qualik has played hockey since he was three and lacrosse since he was seven or eight. He is planning to study business at Syracuse University, with a potential double major. He mentioned considering the club hockey team, noting its competitive nature, and has already contacted the club lacrosse coach. He specifically recommended AP Push as a favorite class and history with Mr. Flam as a fun freshman year option.
Gotham Vijay Honored as May Student of the Month, Heading to University of Michigan for Kinesiology
Gotham Vijay was recognized as a May Student of the Month. He is currently enrolled in modern world literature, AP Calculus AB, AP psychology, AP environmental science, AP chemistry, and AP government and politics. Vijay is a member of the World Language Honor Society, the National Honor Society, and the Science National Honor Society. Outside of school, he is a board member of the HOSA organization, a member of the Lime Club and the South Asian Student Association. He is the captain of the boys tennis team and the vice president of the National Honor Society. He has also participated in basketball. Vijay has a significant volunteer history, including work for The Wish Project, Chelmsford Food Pantry, Chelmsford Public Library, Love All Serve All organization, the Red Cross, and Lawrence General Hospital. He plans to attend the University of Michigan to study kinesiology, focusing on sports science and sports medicine. Vijay chose the University of Michigan for its larger size, strong academic programs, and sports programs. His interest in kinesiology stems from a desire to enter the medical field, combining sports and medicine. He finds volunteering rewarding and considers the Love All Serve All organization, which organized food, blood, and vaccine drives, his most impactful experience. Vijay has been on the tennis team for four years and captain for two, noting the team's rebound this year with strong performances from underclassmen. As vice president of the National Honor Society, he was involved in events like the 'Festival of Trees' to raise money for the CHS Santa fund.
Ella Fazio Honored as May Student of the Month, Aspires to be a Physician's Assistant
Ella Fazio was recognized as a May Student of the Month. She is currently enrolled in calculus, AP psychology, dual enrollment modern world literature, AP dual enrollment environmental science, honors anatomy and physiology, workplace experience for internship, and intro to criminal justice. Fazio is a member of the National Honor Society and the World Language Honor Society in Spanish, serving as treasurer for the latter. Outside of school, she works as a hostess at a restaurant and has plans to become a server. She is also involved in Best Buddies, class representatives, the mentor board (as class captain), the girls varsity lacrosse team, and the girls varsity indoor track and field team. She has also participated in swimming and volleyball. Fazio plans to attend the University of Connecticut to study allied health sciences on a pre-PA track, with a future goal of becoming a physician's assistant dermatologist. She chose UConn for its larger size, school spirit, and proximity to home. Her interest in becoming a PA was influenced by her mother and a job shadow day at a dermatologist's office, where she learned about the flexibility and role of PAs. She is currently playing lacrosse and enjoying increased playing time and camaraderie with her teammates, looking forward to senior night. As treasurer of the World Language Honor Society, she organized monthly meetings and fundraising ideas. As a class captain on the mentor board, she contributed to preparing freshmen for their upcoming school year. Fazio finds her role as a class representative enjoyable, helping to make decisions for class events and spirit days.
