Zoning Board of Appeals Approves Three Variance Requests

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has reviewed three variance requests since the last planning commission meeting. The first involved a driveway extension and widening, which was approved unanimously. The second was for a two-unit dwelling encroaching on setbacks, also approved unanimously after discussion regarding practical difficulties. The third request was for an 18-foot driveway addition to allow parking in the front yard, which was granted despite a prohibition against front yard parking, due to the specific circumstances and neighbor precedents.

Updated Access Management Policies and Guidelines Presented

The commission reviewed an update to the city's access management policies and guidelines, specifically Chapter 156 of the codified ordinances. Key changes include updated functional classifications, incorporation of bicycle and pedestrian facilities, revised lane need guidelines, and new access categories with varying standards. The document also addresses driveway and median design, multimodal considerations, and includes policies for traffic impact studies and appeals processes.
