Property Designated as Fairground Site for Limited Public Events

City Approves Pole Agreement with Classic Cable, Encouraging Broadband Competition
The City Council approved a pole agreement with Classic Cable, allowing for additional broadband providers to enter the city and increase competition. The agreement includes requirements for Classic Cable to provide a GIS map of their route, detailing pole usage and underground installations, to update the city's GIS database. Concerns were raised about the condition of existing poles and the responsibility for repairs, with the city aiming to improve its pole asset management. The current pole agreement fee is $16 per pole, with scheduled increases every four years.
Fire Department Secures Approval for Purchase of Two New Fire Trucks
The Fire Chief presented an update on the potential purchase of two new fire trucks. He noted that the previous chief had initiated discussions in 2024. Two trucks purchased in 2016 are aging. The current proposal involves two pumper trucks at a total cost of approximately $1.2 million. Funding sources include $475,000 from the police jury, an estimated $175,000-$300,000 trade-in value for the 2016 trucks, and $220,000 from a state supplemental appropriation. The remaining cost of approximately $468,000 would be covered by sales tax and/or M funds. This deal is considered financially advantageous, securing two trucks for a quarter million dollars after all contributions.
